Carnival Glory Cruise Review

Sunday, March 19th, 2006

We took at vacation this past Thanksgiving Holiday to the Eastern Caribbean on Carnival cruise lines.  Our ship was called the Glory.  This was our first cruise and I must say we both loved it! First of all, we departed from Port Canaveral (Cape Canaveral), Florida.  We went with my brother and his wife and they have been on many cruises and they said that leaving from this terminal was the fastest and easiest they’ve experienced.  Unlike Miami, Port Everglades and Louisiana which they mentioned had long lines and seemed less organized. We booked a balcony room, because we figured for the extra expense it would be worth it, especially to relax in the morning and at night getting ready for dinner and I have to say it was worth the investment in my opinion. Trips are meant to be memorable, right?.  Many others would say it’s not worth it because there is so much to do on the ship and yes we were busy, but everyday it was great walking out to see the sunrise and relaxing when we went back to the room.  My brother’s room was on the back of the ship on the same floor and his balcony was much bigger (tip for anyone who wants a bigger balcony for the same price, but they book up fast.)

Our trip was taking us to the Bahamas, St. Thomas & St. Maarten in our 7 days on the ship. I have to say that because of this past hurricane season lasting so long there was a disturbance in the middle of the Atlantic which made our first 3 days rocky.  TIP: Bring motion sickness pills (Dramamine Non-drowsy?) I never get sea sick anyway but I started taking the pills a couple days in because I didn’t want to take any chances of anything messing up our trip or me.  Apparently, you should take them a day or two before your trip so it works (just one pill a day).  BRING IT! :-)  Being our first cruise we didn’t know what to expect and I must say every good thing you’ve heard is absolutely true.  The dinners were very nice, we booked the late seating 8pm (they have two 6pm & 8pm).  We did this so we wouldn’t have to rush back from stops on the islands and days laying in the sun. We had a table for us 4 so it was perfect.

The portions are on the smaller side, but you can order anything you want and as much as you want.  If you want two entrees or two appetizers, they’ll bring it - with a smile no less.  Buffets for breakfast and lunch are good, too.  Tons of things to choose from, so you are sure to find something.  The Deli was great!  The only thing not included in the cost is alcohol drinks, of course. The whole ship was amazing.  The theme was “colors” and it fit nicely. They had good shows.  Shopping is duty free and the casino was fun - keep to the table games.  The trips to St. Thomas and St. Maarten was nice.  In St. Thomas we went to Sapphire Beach, just took a cab, it was that easy and it only took about 15 minutes.  The beach was like any other beach in the Caribbean - gorgeous! It had a shop to rent jet skiis, snorkel equipment and lounge chairs.  It also had a nice outdoor grill and bar area as well.  To leave and go back to the ship, the resort personnel hailed the cab for us and we were on our way back to the ship.

In St. Maarten we went on the 4×4 jeep excursion.  It was a lot of fun we drove our own Suzuki Sidekick and we got to see the whole island. During the trip we got to shop and go to the famous Orient Beach to lay out and swim before heading back.  TIP: book your excursions for your cruise well before you go so you can get the spot and trip you want.  The lines at the excursion desk on the ship were long. Other than having an awesome time, that pretty much covers it in a nut shell.  If you have any questions feel free to ask.  Below are some pics from the trip.

We welcome comments on your cruise or vacation experiences.
